Assignment # 11

One sentence that explains what oppression means is Cruel or unjust treatment that is prolonged. An example between violent and non-violent resistance is that violent resistance is when you are hurting someone or doing something that you are not supposed to. And nonviolent resistance is when you are not hurting anyone and doing what you are supposed to do. Agency means to do whatever you want when you are 18 or older because you can have a job you can buy a house and you can go to the club (The ability to determine the outcome of one’s own life). Oppressed people should use nonviolent resistance because violent  resistance leads you to nowhere.

First of all the document that I chose supports my essay because it shows that people in my document was using violent resistance to gain agency. The document that I analyzed is about the Ferguson protest when the police officer shot Michael Brown for stealing from a store in Ferguson, Missouri. The document that I chose is a Article written by German Lopez on Jan. 27, 2016. This information from the document is trustworthy because this is something that actually happened. People used nonviolent resistance because more than 400 arrested and 61 injured. That evidence that I quoted shows that people that use nonviolent resistance because 400 people will not get arrested and 61 won’t be injured because they are not harming the police or anyone.

Second of all the document that I will choose will support my Essay because it is showing us that people should use nonviolent resistance. The document that I analyzed is about SCF, SeeClickFix is a website that tries to help the community by fixing the streets and cleaning graffiti. This document is a poster and data created by Fremont High School student work and Jason Muniz and it was created on April 27 2018. This document is trustworthy because it already helped way much more people in Oakland and i’ve used this website as well. One quote that supports my Question is that they are using nonviolent resistance because they are helping people throughout the Oakland community. This shows that people should use nonviolent resistance because if you us violent resistance you will get in trouble and go to jail for a long time.

Finally the document that I will choose is the Oscar Grant Protest I chose because there was violent resistance used in this protest as well which is not good because there was a lot of people arrested. This document is about Oscar Grant and how he got murdered and what happened before he got murdered. This document is an Article created by Jesse McKinley on

JAN. 8, 2009. This Document is trustworthy because it shows me why he got murdered and what happened before he got murdered. One quote that supports my answer to the question is that they were using violent resistance because they were fighting in the bart then the bart Police came and arrested them then the police shot Oscar Grant then Oscar grant died in the Hospital. Oppressed people should use nonviolent resistance because the same thing can happen to you as well get arrested and then shot by police for no reason.

research assignment #2- Embed a map

This is about a person that was shot in 2009 and then they started protesting for him and then the law enforcement stopped it in 2011 and I believe they started it again in 2014.This is Institutional Oppression because people in this story is breaking laws and rules so it caused them to get in trouble by the law enforcement. This story happened in Oakland Ca. in October 10, 2011.This is about how Oscar Grant got killed and what he was doing before he got killed.I think it is interpersonal because the officer behaved a different way in front of Oscar Grant because he might of been racist. This happened in Fruitvale Bart Station in New years Eve 2009.

Assignment #8

Power means to have the ability to control events and the behavior of other people. Marginalized means to be put off to the side or make less important. Exploit means to take unfair advantage of someone for you own benefit. People with power they can control people like poor or homeless and people that marginalize the don’t care about anything the put it to the side. Exploit is like do the right move don’t risk yourself. For example Christopher Columbus had Power he Controlled the people from Spain. People with power are able to marginalize and exploit because the people with power are able to control events like how the Spanish leader controls the slaves and made them do whatever he told them to do, for example like how the federal housing administration, of the U.S government created maps that marginalize African Americans and Foreigners from White people because the government is thinking that only White people have money so they get all the stuff they need. People with power are able to marginalize and exploit people with different identities by manipulating them or capturing them.

First, People with Power are able to Marginalize and Exploit because the people with power are able to control events like how the Spanish leader controls the slaves and made them do whatever he told them to do. So the people with Power put the slaves off to the side because they were less important to him. For example the Spanish leader Perished over 2 million people and 2 thousand survivors. This document is about the Spanish leader that Perished about 2 million people and how he made them into slaves. This document came from a quote from a book titled In Defense of the Indians and it was written in 1521 by Bartolome De las Casas. One quote from the document that my paragraph is about is, ” During these eleven years, more than two million souls have perished and only two thousand survivors are to be seen, and even this number is shrinking day by day as the survivors succumb to the rigours of a life of a slavery.” The evidence that I quoted proves my evidence because the Spanish leader killed over 2 million people and the people can’t do nothing about because he has more power over them so he just put them off to the side they were less important to them.

Document six, reveals how the federal housing administration, of the U.S government created maps that marginalize African Americans and Foreigners from White people. These maps rated neighborhoods that were rated low because it had people of color. Document 6, an article on a news article website called the Atlantic titled “ The case for reparations by Ta-Nahes, Coates written in June 2014, stated that.” Quotes that supports my paragraph is “ Neighborhoods where black people lived were rated “ D’’ and were usually considered ineligible for FHA insurance… Neither the percentage of black people living there nor their social class mattered. This shows that the government is a systematic institution marginalized and exploited people with color from opportunities like F.H.A insurance simply because of their skin color.

People with power are able to marginalize and exploit people with different identities by manipulating them or capturing them. Document 7, is a record made by an Aztec scribe in 1529. It explores who the Aztec would sacrifice their enemies and sacrifice a young man who thought to be the human form of their god. “ It is written that I was amazed by the physical beauty of the enemy warrior was killed at the end of the Festival.” This shows that the Aztec civilian thought he was superior to his enemy to the degree that he found beauty in another humans death.

assignment #5 – shadow box project

An identity is the qualities of a person that defines who they are. there are many different identities such as: assigned identities , chosen identities, and gender identities. dominant narrative is a story that people in a position of privilege tell about someone who is not. A counter narrative is a story or perspective that people who are marginalized tell about themselves.I think is important to tell about your dominant narrative and counter narrative because you can tell a story about what happened in the past.

To begin with an dominant narrative you must have a lot of privilege and power so people would believe you more than the counter narrative. I plan to use arabic and muslim stereotypes for dominant narratives. I use arabic and muslim stereotypes because a lot of people use racist comments I will use that because people say since you’re muslim you are a terrorist. Another dominant narrative is that they say that muslim are the ones who crashed into the twin towers. That is a dominant narrative because other people get mad at muslims and arabs and sometimes they even hurt them.
